Dear Mam and Dad,

This is my third letter home but up to the present I have only had one reply, that was the one I got along with the parcel, so I have been wandering [sic] what was the matter.

Well I am still here and doing pretty much the same thing although I have

been working one or two nights and I am on again to-night.

On Friday, St Patrick’s day, we had a dance in the Mess which I really enjoyed, I do not think I have seen so much liquor in one place before since I came back from Canada and some of the boys really got drunk but I was still able to walk home unassisted.

Yesterday I had a twenty-four pass so I hitch hiked into Norich [sic] as that is the

only way you can get there on a Sunday. As the cinemas open on Sundays I had quite a good time but all the hotels were full so I had to sleep in the Y.M.C.A. I would not have minded only I had a room with two Yanks and only two blankets so it was pretty chilly. I came back at ten o’clock this morning on the bus and was I glad to get into the Mess for dinner. The cafés in Norich [sic] exist on beans and toast.

That all for now, reply soon

Your loving son,

Lewis
