Dear Mam & Dad,

Our corporal whose just been made a sergeant told us to day that we get paid on Friday every two week and we get 30/-, the other money (5/-) is kept back for when you go on leave.

As no one appears to know any thing about allowances, and I’ve tried to find out, I shall send you a 14/- postal order every fortnight. I hope this will be alright for you.

To day a lot of our flight have been inoculated & vaccinated so we are haveing [sic] a [sic] easy time, those who’ve been [deleted] down [/deleted] done are laid on their beds moaning, we will get done to-morrow I think.

To-night if its fine the whole flight are going to have their photo taken. I’ve ordered three so I’ll send you one next week some time. The sergeant also told us that if we like the whole flight can go and see the show “Up & Doing” this week end [inserted] Stan Holloway Carol Gibbons etc) [/inserted] in the [deleted] len [/deleted] 10/6 seats for 3/6s

the whole flight is going so I am.

On Sunday three of us “Mac” (Irish) “Tich” (Devon) and I went to the zoo and the gate keeper wouldn’t let us pay 1/- to go in, he let us in free we [deleted] say [/deleted] saw all the animal worth seeing, panda, lions, tigers, rhino., elephant etc and a 50ft Indian python. After tea we came out and went to Campden [sic] town to the pictures & saw “One night in Rio”. Then we walked all the way back through Regents park & got lost although we just got in before “lights out”.

Yesterday the sergeant was mad, he had us walking, doubling back, about turning, [inserted] etc [/inserted] for two hours in the boiling sun so I had to go sick this morning with blisters and I had them dressed, I didn’t miss anything as the flight has 48 hrs off duty owing to inoculations etc.

I think I shall be leaving this building this weekend and going higher up the road to the “Posting Wing”. [we now in R.C. = receiving wing] [deleted word] for a fortnight before being posted to Torquay, Blackpool or somewhere for “Initial Training” so don’t write any letters I shain’t [sic] get before Saturday, until I send you the new address. Tell Fred & Hats this will you. I think thats all, Rember [sic] me to all.

Your loving son

Lewis

A lot of new recruits came in to day I know two of them. Write back as soon as I send new address. How about Walt’s chickens.
