COMBINED RECRUITING CENTRE,
To: Mr RWL Muir Hackney Eq
Date: 24 MAR 1941
THIS LETTER SHOULD BE SHOWN ON ARRIVAL AT THE RECRUITING CENTRE.
Sir,
With reference to your application for enlistment into the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, it is requested that you will report at this Centre on 17 APR 1941 [deleted] as soon after [/deleted] 9 a.m. [deleted] as possible. [/deleted]
2. The vacancy for which you are being considered is that of ACH Air Crew
3. You will be required to proceed to a Recruits’ Centre for attestation.
4. You may not, however, be required for immediate service, and on attestation you may be returned to civil life pending recall to the Service, during which time no pay or emoluments will be issued.
5. It is suggested, therefore, that if you are in employment, you obtain two or three days leave in order to proceed to the Recruits’ Centre, so that if you are not required for immediate service you may, after attestation, continue with your civilian employment, pending

your recall for service. The Attestation Officer will advise you as to the probable period of any deferment of service, and before being recalled you will be given approximately ten days notice.
6. If you are required for immediate service you will be permitted, if necessary, to return home for a limited period to settle your business or private affairs.
7. [deleted] As your stay at the Recruits’ Centre is likely to be of two or three days duration [/deleted] You should bring with you the following:-
(a) [deleted] Your shaving kit, etc., and sufficient clothing for two or three days [/deleted] You are recommended to bring an overcoat or waterproof.
(b) Your National Health and Unemployment Insurance Cards or, if not available, their numbers.
(c) Your civilian gas mask.
(d) Your Registration Card (if registered under the National Service (Armed Forces) Act).
(e) (If married) Your marriage certificate and birth certificates of children, if possible.
(f) Civilian Ration Card and unexpired portions of the book.
(g) National Registration Identity Card.
8. [deleted] A railway warrant is attached herewith to enable you to make the journey. If you are unable to report, the railway warrant should be immediately returned. [/deleted]
