Your Ref. P.406128/S.14.Cas.C.5.
Madam,
I am directed to refer to this Department’s letter of the 5th November, 1943, and to inform you that the Graves Registration and Enquiry Service have found it necessary to remove your son’s grave with those of his crew from St. Trond Cemetery to the British Cemetery at Louvain, Heverle, Belgium.
He now lies with his companions in grave No19-21, Row A, Plot No.5.
I am to explain that where adequate arrangements cannot be made for the permanent upkeep of graves it is the practice of the Graves Service to transfer them into Service cemeteries where facilities are available for their proper care and maintenance, in perpetuity, by the Imperial War Graves Commission. It is in accordance with this policy that your son’s body has been removed.
I am to add that it is the intention of the Graves Service to photograph the graves of all Service personnel. Some considerable time must elapse before this task is completed but you may rest assured that as soon as the photograph of your son’s grave is received it will be forwarded to you.
I am, Madam
Your obedient Servant,
