William Norman’s Observer’s and Air Gunner’s Flying Log Book from 10th October 1943 until 4th October 1944. During this time trained as an air gunner. Initial training at No. 12 Air Gunnery School. Further training at 18 Operational Training Unit, 1481 Bombing and Gunnery Flight, 1662 Heavy Conversion Unit and No. 1 Lancaster Finishing School. Operational posting to 626 Squadron in July 1944.

Failed to return from a mine laying operation to the Kattegat on 4th October 1944, death presumed.

Served at RAF Bishops Court, RAF Worksop, RAF Blyton, RAF Hemswell, RAF Wickenby.

Aircraft flown were Anson, Wellington, Halifax, Lancaster.

He undertook 1 night leaflet operation with 18 OTU to Alencon.

With 626 squadron he flew a total of 17 bombing and 2 minelaying operations (5 day and 14 night). His targets were Caen, Scholven, Courtrai, Kiel, Stuttgart, Foret de Nieppe, Pauillac, Fontenay le Marmion, Russelsheim, Stettin, St. Riquier, Eindhoven, Le Havre, Frankfurt, Rheine, Kattegat, Baltic off Kiel.

His pilot for all his operations was Flying Officer Green.
