Dear Ma,
I had a Photo and Birthday card from Norman this week no letters from you and one from Winnie. Its still very hot indeed here today is the hottest day I can ever remember. Some new men arrived here yesterday and today (sun). Fred Southam went to a working camp last Frid. This is the second working Party from this camp. All my Parcel was complete. I eventually got it last Monday. I Have another Fag Parcel tomorrow. I haven't had any Mail from London for weeks now. Please thank Teddy and Elsie for their letter. I got it last Sun after I wrote my letter. How are Mrs Pepper and Hyde, if you still write Remember me to them and convey my Best Regards. The troops had a Fancy Dress Ball on Thurs last. We almost believed we were seeing things. Men were dress as women, Deep Sea Divers, Zulus, Mark Antony, Cleopatra, Egyptian Slaves, Long John Silver, Baristers, [sic] The Chain Gang and no end of novelties like [indecipherable word] and The goons. I have sketches of these to show when I come home. I hope this letter finds you as healthy and in the same excelent [sic] spirits it leaves me in.
Your Loving Son Leslie
