Dear Sgt Pickford,
So it was [underlined] you [/underlined] who sent me the sweet little calendar! I was most worried when I received it as I had no idea who to write to to thank! However, now I know, and I wish to thank you very much indeed for your kind thought and also for all your good wishes. The Calendar is hung on the wall just above my desk, and you couldn't have chosen one to please me more, as I have

a passion for The English Countryside, and not being able to see much of it nowadays is one of the things I miss most – and so your calendar will remind me each day that the little villages, fields, woods & moors are still there and that one day, perhaps sooner than [deleted] I [/deleted] we dare to hope, I shall be enjoying them again.
Apart from all the above reasons why your calendar pleases me so much – The fact that you have sent it means a great deal to me, for I now feel that perhaps I have, after all been able to

do a little something to help you & all your recent fellow Prisoners of War who have done & are still doing so [underlined] very [/underlined] much for us.
I hope you will like your new Station and that this year will bring you much happiness to make up for what you missed whilst you were in captivity.
I have had two letters from my husband This week so am feeling "on top of The world" – he is very fit and is now allowed to visit the local Cinema once a month on parole – you will

know how much this will mean to him!
