6th Thur.
Came home ill from the office, Mother had to come & fetch me, disgraced myself by being sick in the Station Yard at Surbiton. Dr came to see me I am to stay in bed until he comes tomorrow.
[page break]
7 Fri.
No Dr today, he is too busy to come, strange. Have finished ‘The Strong City’ which I enjoyed immensely & have now a great number of murders to get through, though only in books.
8 Sat.
Dr came again today & I can get up, which is a relief. Came down & listened to the wireless. The Saturday Night Theatre was very good. Cecil Parker took chief role.
[page break]
9 Sun.
Another lazy day. The Dr came this afternoon with his bag of tricks & tested me for the screws. No result, an x-ray is the next thing. I do love these elegant poses.
10 Mon.
The is nothing to do so there is nothing to put in a diary. Eat, sleep & read.
[page break]
11 Tues.
Still eat, sleep & read.
12 Wed.
Phoned up the Doctor & had to go to the [deleted] Doctor [/deleted] Hospital for an appointment for my X ray. I had to drink down the awful whitewash stuff.
[page break]
13 Thur.
Went for my X ray today. After the 1st one was allowed a cup of tea, don’t think one has ever tasted so good & that is saying something.
14 Fri.
Went out today to enjoy myself & felt so awful that I was glad to get home. Saw ‘Now Voyager’ with Bette Davis it was very good.
[page break]
15 Sat.
To say that it was a foggy day would be underestimating it, the trollies & buses stopped running.
16 Sun.
Still foggy but not [underlined] quite [/underlined] so bad. Just sat & sat, read & played patience.
[page break]
17 Mon.
Started back at work, felt a bit wobbly & strange. Mr Miller had me up & said I wasn’t to worry about Eastwoods. Managed to do Mr Hoare’s figures. Home early.

May 1944
6 Sat.
Very lazy day, must be getting old, because I enjoyed it. Did a great deal of knitting a little sleeping & some reading. Good play on the wireless, made me cry. Gladys Young excellent.
7 Sun.
Another lazy day, got up at 9.30. Did some house work, wrote a letter or two washed my hair. Finished Jacks socks, two stitches wrong, spoils the whole thing.
