My darling Jean,
Thanks so much for your letter received on Tuesday, as it happened your picture of my sitting down to ham and eggs did’nt materialize, however we did have a couple of pints.
We have’nt been out in the car since I came back, shall wait until Ron gets some more petrol organized, I did find a small leak in the petrol pump so don’t

suppose that helped matters, however its now fixed so I might get another couple of [deleted] gallons [/deleted] miles to the gallon.
Hope by this time you are settling down, expect you have mentally arranged the kitchen already, probably more than fifty ways, regarding that larder, its not essential, have you thought of the cupboard between the front room and the kitchen? this would do for dry goods and perhaps later on we could scrounge a frigidaire (ice box) from somewhere, the electric ones are expensive but we’ll see (no promises) what do you think of the idea?

If you had’nt any food to put in it, it would keep the beer cool. (bought out of the housekeeping money).
By the way how did the dinner go? have anxiously watched the papers but no mysterious deaths have been reported in Surbiton.
We’ve been doing a bit of training lately, not so busy as before leave as there are more of us, about twice a week I should think, things look as though there will be plenty of fun and games on the Rhine soon,

I think old Monty is right when he said that we had entered the ring for the last round.
Well darling, nothing much more to write about, I miss you dear, but we’ll soon be seeing each other again.
Cheerio for the time being, give my kind regards to Mother & Dad
Take care of yourself
All my love
Jack
