I was a bit surprised when I received no letter yesterday I hope you are not ill or Elaine so that you cannot get out. I am having a pretty rough time just now I am confined to Billots [sic] with a septic ankle & Vaccinea neither serious but extremely Sickening about similar symptons [sic[ has [sic] Flu only a lot worse, about 6 out of 9 Chaps have got it. I have to go up to the M.O. tonight at 6 o clock, I started about dinner time Friday & I can safely say I am much better but my ankle has not gone down properly as yet. There are two of our chaps in hospital out of our digs & about 20 others are feeling lousy all through this Blasted Vacc: & Inoc:

Well dear I hope you have got the pram from next door, it will most likely save you a lot if you have, Have you got anything else for Baby yet you musn’t [sic] leave things too late you know although I know you wont. I shall bring you some chocolate & Elaine some rock when I come home I shall not get my Photos out of this weeks pay 5/- we have been told we may get some more this Friday some of the chaps were livid with rage. I wasn’t very pleased I can tell you but still that makes no difference whether you mad or not but it was very dissapointing. [sic] I know I shall receive a letter from you tomorrow & then I shall know when I ought to apply for leave it costs 18/3 but it will be worth it I can tell you I am damned fed up with this place
[page break]
we were out drilling all Wed: in pouring rain so there was’nt [sic] a chap in the billets or squad for that matter who was not lousy next day, it’s bloody ridiculous it’s a wonder we didn’t all refuse to carry on but that would cancel all leave. I did not write yesterday because expected a letter from someone but none came so I shall expect a lot tomorrow & I think I shall get them at least I hope [deleted] not [/deleted] so. Well darling I cant think just now so you must excuse me & don’t worry too much about me I shall be alright I think after tomorrow when I get my old socks to wear under these hard things we have got now & my shoes are plenty big enough now so I should be O.K. Tell Elaine I will write her a letter next time, so Cherio. [sic]
Best Love Stan & Daddy
