THE NIGHT HUNTER

And this sea hawk has a hunter’s moon to guide it.

It’s one of the R.A.F’s famous Blenheim fighter-bombers.

Droning through the clouds, you see it on night patrol over the North Sea.

There’s death; swift and certain, waiting for Nazi raiders, both in the clouds and on the seas.

IN R.A.F. RAID.

Mr. Jack Hanne, son of Mrs Floyd, of Llandrindod Wells, who took part in the recent R.A.F. raid on the German Fleet, and returned safely, was among those presented to the King by Sir Kingsley Wood, Minister for Air.

FIRST HEROES OF THE WAR HONOURED

THE first awards of the war – the Distinguished Flying Cross – “in recognition of gallantry displayed in flying operations against the enemy” were announced in the London Gazette last night.

They were awarded to Flying Officer Kenneth Christopher Doran and Flying Officer Andrew McPherson.

The Gazette tells how each officer earned his award.

“Flying Officer Doran early in September led an attack against an enemy cruiser. In face of heavy gunfire and in extremely bad weather conditions, he pressed home a successful low attack with great determination.

Mothers Know

[italics] Mothers know the meaning of the evil thing called War. They know what heartaches lie behind the tumult and the roar. If German mothers had been asked – before the blood was shed, “Poland or your son? . . . Is there a doubt they would have said – “My son” For what do women care for hate, revenge and gain . . . The women who must give their men. The women who remain – beside the hearth to pray for those to whom they’ve given birth. What is it to them if their Great Fuehrer own the earth?

What is that to them if far away ‘neath Polish skies – the lad they love lies staring at the stars with sightless eyes? The boys may march to battle in a patriotic glow – But Mothers know the price of glory. Yes, the mothers know. [/italics]

Dear Hanne,

With reference to your letter during the last few days I have been looking into the matter of your posting.

I am afraid however that you have now been definitly [sic] posted “non effective sick” and until you [page break]
are fit again nothing can be done. When you are fit you will go to a “pilots pool” and if we are then under strength it may be possible for you to come back.

In the mean time you will have to contain yourself in patience

Anyway a rest is a good thing

Your sincerely
