Gosport Airman Awarded DF.M.

In recognition of gallantry displayed in flying operations against the enemy, a Gosport airman has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. He is 539154 Sergt. Alfred Ernest Harris, R.A.F., No. 61 Squadron.

As flight engineer, Sergt. Harris has completed a large number of sorties, including 11 attacks on the capital of the German Reich.

Throughout his tour he has been of inestimable help to his captain, and has played a worthy part in the many successes obtained. His example of courage and devotion to duty has been highly commendable.

Sergt. Harris was born in 1915 at Kensington and his home is at Gosport. He enlisted in 1937 and is now a flight engineer.
