Holwell Iron and Steel Works

A vertical aerial photograph of Holwell Iron & Steel Works at Asfordby Hill, near to the towns of Asfordby and Melton Mowbray. To the right of this photograph, the London, Midlands and Scott Railways (LMSR) connects the iron and steel works to the rest a mainline across Britain. This railway splits, with one part traveling across the centre of the photograph to Howell Metal and Steel works on the left, whereas the other railway continues to the top of the photograph, before disappearing into a tunnel beneath Pasture House. Scattered along the trainyards adjacent to the metal works are train cars which are being loaded outside of storage buildings. Steam or smoke from the industrial steelmaking process covers areas to the top of the photograph, however, some buildings from the Holwell Works can be seen, particularly the blast furnaces. Welby Lane can be seen at the centre-bottom of the photo, leading to Welby House at the bottom left. A small reservoir can be seen in the centre of the photograph. The surrounding areas are mainly agricultural, apart from a number of houses to the top and bottom right of the photograph which are part of Pasture House and The Valley respectively.
