2 Apr 1944: Hello Everyone
It's Sunday evening once more. It is 6:30 and I have just finished my supper. At present I am sitting in the seat beside the fire. Has been a nasty day with lots of rain and wind, a real spring rain, but I guess it will do a lot of good.
I haven't received any letters from you this week but have got several from Dora. According to her you are all well and getting along pretty good. Gwen and Grant are busy with Easter exams so I understand. Hope you are getting along OK with your chickens now. They must be quite a size by now.
The crops are all in over here and they have been planting early potatoes around this part of the country.
I am kept busy with flying and theory but don't mind it too much. I haven’t been away from here for quite awhile. Our day off was cancelled this week but hope to get a 48 next week. I have a bicycle now and get lots of exercise running around camp.
My food is pretty good here but not like at home. I am really going to appreciate good food when I get back. We have some toast every night at bedtime here in the hut which we make over the fire. We are able to buy bread at a little store near here, no coupons are necessary. We also get coaco [ed. cocao] without coupons over here.
I got ambitious last night and wrote Johnny Grooms and Arnotts [ed. my father was known in the family as Arnot – John Arnot Van Nest - his uncle]. I also wrote Uncle Harvey and Uncle Jack last week. [ed. father’s brothers]
Well everything is about the same over here. I can't think of much news to tell you. Be sure and write whenever you have time. I sure like to get letters.
Love Glenn
