30 Apr 1944: Hello Folks
Well it’s Sunday evening, will soon be the 1st of May. It is just 9:30 and I am sitting on my bunk. It has been a glorious day today and have had lovely weather all week.
Received one letter from you this week but mail has been very slow for some unknown reason. It will come in a rush one of these days.
Have been busy1 all night and sleep in until noon every day this week. Will be flying again tonight later on.
Have some leave coming very soon. Don’t know how much, possibly 2 weeks. Will spend a few days with Jack Brooks and intend to see some of Scotland2.
In Dora’s last letter Archie was having some leave. It will soon be over now and he will have to report. Hope he is able to stay in Canada.
Sorry to hear that Gwen and Grant aren’t feeling on top. Hope they will be better by now.
Expect you are seeding now, if not already finished.
Receive a letter from Jesse this week. I suppose they will be at Kinsale3 by now. I am going to write to him tonight.
Your chickens will be getting along now. Hope the foxes and skunks stay away this year. It will soon be haying time over here, seems to be a wonderful catch of seeds. I pitched sheaves for 1 ½ hour this week. Helped the farmer down to road to thresh his grain stack while the regular hands went to dinner. They had two men and six land army girls to do the threshing. Two other fellows and myself went down to help. It was a very small mill so we didn’t work very hard. They had a little woman of about 50 years tending the machine. I offered to ?feed? but she insisted that she was the only one that knew how so we let her do it. They invited the three of us down for supper the next night but we were unable to make it so we phoned up and let them know.
Can’t think of any more news for now. I don’t seem to be losing much weight over here. Will write and tell you about my leave next week. Thank Gwen for your part of the last letter4. A snap of you in your new suit will be welcome.
