3 Jan 1943 from Gwen: Hello “Big Boy”. Glenn is 20, Gwen is 16, Grant is 14.

How are you getting along by now? We were disappointed when you were unable to get down today. Better luck next time!
We have a new cousin, born on the 26th. Uncle Norm3 wrote yesterday saying that they are going to call him D’Arcy. Rather an odd name! Grant hopes that they’ll not forget the “D”. The baby is fine but Aunt Elmira is quite ill.
New Years night we went up to Mrs. Jack Short’s. We played cards most of the evening and was Grant ever surprise when Mrs. Short and I defeated Walter and him. I think you knew that George is a carpenter in the Navy. He is a Petty Officer and stationed in a tavern up west completing naval buildings. Mr. Short is much better and will soon have the cast off of his leg.
Tomorrow I guess it is back to school for me. The holidays have gone so quickly and I am not looking forward to school very enthusiastically, I am afraid. We are invited to Orono tomorrow evening and will go to Bragg’s after. Grant hasn’t a pair of skates yet however.
Mother finished your washing and I think she is intending to mail it tomorrow. Hope that is alright with you.
Grant starts writing exams tomorrow. Today he is attempting to study but I don’t believe ?? he has learned very much. He is too interested in the radio.
I shall close now as I can’t think of any more news. I have your sock ready to turn the heel so should have it finished very shortly. Please write and tell us when you know where you will be stationed.
