My Dearest Mother and Dad,
A few lines to wish you all at home a very jolly Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. I trust that you will have the usual family reunion. I am very sorry that I can’t be there this time but hope I can get some leave and spend Xmas with one of the relatives.
Have had no letter from you for nearly two weeks now but trust that you are all fit at the time of writing as this letter leaves me.
Am just continuing on the same old course which should be finished at the end of this week as we have started on the various exams. We were issued with flying kit the other day and believe me it is really
[page break]
lovely stuff and warm as anything.
I shall be rather sorry to leave Paignton as I fear the next place is going to be rather too cold. The last few days have been very clear and have had quite a lot of sunshine.
Went to a dance last Saturday night being payday but it was so crowded that I left about 11 and got to bed. Am having a lot of early nights lately as it gets dark so early and it is not much fun walking around in the blackout as I always collide head on with someone. However have got to do a spot of swotting for these exams, so am not missing much.
Well dear Mother must close now as I must see about a few Xmas Cards. Again wishing you and Dad everything of the very very [sic] best at Christmas and the coming New Year,
from your loving son
Donald.
Hope to get a letter from you this week.
