Thursday. 3. am
My Dear Mother & Dad,
This is my first opportunity of writing to you as I have been on duty. I am only just free & have had breakfast. I am waiting for Chapman who is having a wash & then I shall go to bed.
Yesterday I received quite a long letter from E.W.F. who is now at Plymouth. He wished to express his appreciation for the letter received from Mother, & sent his best wishes to you both & said he would be writing soon.
I have little or no news

beyond being able to ensure you that the boys & I are keeping well & that young Rooster is also hale & hearty & growing up fast.
[underlined] Cont: [/underlined] Thursday. 1. pm.
I have just got up & had lunch & am finishing this letter before I go for a wash & shave. Tonight we intend going into town to see a flick & possibly have tea. It will be our first visit since Friday of last week.
I have just received your Wed. letter acknowledging mine written Sat – Sun – Monday. Did I forget to number this 11.? Yes I expect John will get about 3 weeks leave, & I do wish I could see him. Thank you very much for returning my laundry, I don’t think it has arrived yet, however.
I must say good-bye now in order to catch the afternoon post.
