Collection concerns Pilot Officer Ian Archer Wynn (1908 - 1943, 146838 Royal Air Force). After training as ground crew he remustered as a flight engineer and flew operations with 100 Squadron. He was killed 25 May 1943 on an operation from RAF Grimsby to Düsseldorf. We are so sorry to have to tell you that we do not advise you to address correspondence to your husband until it is established that he is a Prisoner-of-War, and then the Prisoner-of-War Department at St. James’ Palace will give you all the necessary advice about writing. In the case of men captured at Singapore, correspondence was sent via the Red Cross because it was clear that large numbers of our men had actually become Prisoners-of-War though we had no news of them. We realise how anxious you are during these days of waiting but rest assured everything possible is being done on your behalf and immediately any news comes through from the International Red Cross Committee at Geneva or any other source, you will be notified.
